Audiovox is a new entrant in the Pocket PC arena. It's Maestro Pocket PC is strikingly reminiscent of the Toshiba Genio Pocket PC, and for good reason. The Maestro, like the Genio, is manufactured in Taiwan by HTC.

However, Audiovox will be marketing its Maestro in a very different way than any of the other Pocket PC licensees. It will bundle the Maestro along with a cellular telephone and data cable, and market it through cellular carriers. Pricing will be determined by the carriers.

The Maestro is powered by a 206 MHz Intel StrongARM processor and backed by 32MB of main memory (RAM). It also offers two expansion slots: a Secure Digital slot and a type II CompactFlash slot. It has an excellent 240 x 320 pixel, 64K color side-lit TFT screen that rivals the Sony CLIE's and its touchscreen has a wonderful feel that is very responsive. However, it should be noted that the screen is smaller than the Compaq iPAQ's screen, more along the lines of the screen found on Hewlett Packard's Jornada Pocket PC.

The Maestro is a shade smaller than the iPAQ at 0.7" x 4.9" x 3.0" and weighs 6.3 ounces. Users will also be able to personalize the look of their PDA with a variety of colored stylus pens and side panels, akin to swappable faceplates on Palm's m100 series handhelds.
